Western Dressage
From Boots & Breeches Golden Boogie |
To Boots & Jeans Suddenly a Zip - Louie |
Dressage has been a big part of my life for the last 20 years. I started out on a grade, 1/4 Clydesdale-1/4 Arab-1/2 Quarter horse gelding that no one thought was going to amount to anything when I paid $350 for him to get him out of a bad situation. Mo became my buddy and Main Man. He saw me through more crap than anyone other than my little sister did. But, with that big bay horse, I learned what dressage was and what it could do for a horse.
Above left is my TB, Golden Boogie, he was an event horse that was given to me by his owner when she was unable to care for him any longer. Boogie and I showed successfully in dressage in Texas and Louisiana before moving to Nebraska where he enjoyed semi-retirement.
Louie is a coming 9-year-old appaloosa gelding that I now enjoy Western Dressage with. Why Western & Cowboy Dressage you might ask? Why not traditional dressage, hunt seat, western pleasure, or just plain trail riding...
Well, Louie has done the Western pleasure scene and done it quite well. I've done, halter, showmanship, hunter under saddle, costume, etc. I have never, in all my years of riding and competing encountered a more competitive yet supportive group of equestrians. It is no wonder this is one of the fastest-growing sports. So with a little bit of the "why" I'm in it, we'll start getting into the heart of the sport in my next posts.
Stay tuned! More fun is to come :)
